Most
years we present Handel's 'Messiah' by candlelight and for the glory
of God. It is normally the Sunday evening before Christmas.
The choir and soloists (all regular worshipers at
Prince George), sing Part 1 (the Christmas section), plus well
loved arias and choruses from Parts 2 & 3, including
'Hallelujah' and 'I know that my Redeemer liveth'. A copy of the
program, including the full text of 'Messiah' can be downloaded here. The regular Prince George Adult
Choir are joined by the Youth section of the Junior
Choir (always a high point!). Last year the soloists were:
Bass
Tenor
Alto
Soprano |
Jason Hamshaw (our extremely talented Youth
Minister)
Jeremy Vause (our leader
tenor and 'in demand' local soloist)
Sarah Blamire (recently arrived from England)
Junior Choir (some individuals and some
as a section)
|
In addition to the organ, we were accompanied
by harpsichordist
Jim Calk and trumpeter Joey Pittman.
At
the end of the evening everyone is invited to a reception in the
parish hall where mince pies and mulled wine (traditional since the
middle ages in Europe) will beare served alongside more familiar
treats.
Further information from Jonathan Blamire via email or
phone (843 546 4358), or the Parish Office.
Here is a Press
Release about the 2009 performance, and these were the posters:
