Prince George has an active music ministry, lead by our full time music director, Jonathan Blamire.

Adult Choir

They sing at the 11am Service on Sundays and special services as required. It is a very friendly and welcoming group,  singing music in the 'western traditional' style, ranging from renaissance (Byrd, Palestrina, etc) through Bach, Handel and Mozart to contemporary composers such as Rutter and Lauridsen. Rehearsals are 7.oopm - 9.oopm on Thursday in the Parish Hall, and from 10.15am on Sunday.

Victorian Carols by Candlelight is another Christmas favorite, giving space for some calm and reflection in the busy run up to Christmas.

Youth & Junior Choir

Junior Choir of Prince George Winyah Episcopal Church - August 2009Our enthusiastic Youth & Junior Choir is for children and young people aged seven and upward. The choir sings at a very high standard and participates periodically in Sunday morning worship, our 'Messiah' performance (in 2008 they strated taking the soprano solos!), and is available for weddings and special events.

There are some pictures here.

The RSCM 'Voice for Life' program is used to help members learn to read music and understand their role in the worship life of our church. Music ranges from Bach and Handel to contemporary 'traditional' and popular.

Here are some samples recorded in 2008, a couple of months after the choir was 'reformed' (one take - no edits!):

These two pieces were sung during communion in February 2008 (not an ideal recording!):

In August 2009 they sang 'Wir eilen mit schwachen' (from Cantata No. 78) by J.S. Bach, in the original German as the offertory. Here is the recording, with harpsichord and cello.

The choir also helped record some more contemporary songs for our Vacation Bible Schools. You can see the music videos here.

Rehearsals are on Wednesday afternoon from 4.00 to 4.45 (younger children), 4.00 to 5.15 for older / more advanced singers.  During the summer rehearsal is moved to Thursdays at 11 am

Please contact Jonathan Blamire if you are interested in your child joining.

Praise Team

Prince George Winyah Praise TeamThe praise team leads contemporary style music, using a core group of  keyboards, guitar, bass, vocals and flute at the 9am Sunday service. They are joined on occasions by other instruments (bassoon, violin, etc). The use of both modern and 'classical' instruments gives a beautiful blend and versatility to the sound. Most of the team also participate in the choir too.

Music Director

Jonathan Blamire with a new hymn written for Easter 2008

Jonathan Blamire leads the music ministry at Prince George and is equally comfortable in traditional and contemporary music. His desire is for the congregation to encounter the living God through worship, and he seeks to use the most appropriate high quality music to glorify God and edify the congregation in any style.  As well as selecting music from the huge range of commercial  sources, he also arranges and composes as God leads.

As well as directing the choirs and band, Jonathan plays the organ / piano for services at Prince George, as well as leading worship for a variety of bible studies, staff chapel, special services, weddings and funerals..

Jonathan holds a BSc (Hons) in Music and Electronics from Keele University (England), where he was also the Organ Scholar. He plays organ and piano, and in the past was quite a good oboist and bassoonist. His family are also very involved in the musical life of Prince George. Wife, Sarah, is an excellent singer and pianist, and his three daughters sing / play in the adult and youth choirs and the praise team.

Jonathan can be contacted via email or phone (843 546 4358).
