'Hooked On Jesus' Vacation Bible School 2009This year was our first Parish Family Vacation Bible School, open to all ages. About 120 people aged from a few weeks to a few weeks past 90 years came together to eat, worship and learn more of the power and love of Christ. The theme for the week was 'Hooked on Jesus' and together we explored 5 accounts of Jesus and the sea as he called the first disciples, demonstrated His power over His creation, and his power to save us. Being based in the Low Country of South Carolina and on the coast, the sea and fishing theme has particular relevance for us. Photo are here. Here are some of the music videos we used during our worship. We hope you enjoy watching as much as we had fun recording the music and then filming 'Hollywood style' with a green screen. The music is available on CD and DVD from the parish office.
'Hooked on Jesus' was our theme song for the week. Written by Jon Blamire (our music director) and performed by our Junior Choir. A note for people 'from off' - pluff mud is a particularly smelly mud found in our local creeks and river beds.
'Jesus calls me' - probably the favorite song of the children - not typical of Prince George worship. Written by Jon Blamire (our music director) and performed by our Junior Choir.
'If I've got Jesus in the boat' - a slower adult favorite. Written by Jon Blamire (our music director) and performed by our members of our contemporary group.
'Jesus born on earth to save' - an old hymn tune with new words by Jon Blamire (our music director), performed by members of our adult choir.
'My Jesus, my Savior' - immensely popular song by Darlene Zschech performed by members of our junior choir, with accompaniment from our worship group and string quartet.
'You are my hiding place' - song by Michael Ledner, performed as a round by members of our junior choir and contemporary group with our string quartet. Dubbed the Phantom of the Opera song!
'Lord You are more precious than silver' - a simple
and beautiful song of worship by Lynn De Shazo,
performed members of our junior choir and contemporary
group with our string quartet.
'With Jesus in the boat we can smile through the
storm' - performed by members of our junior choir.
'O Zion haste' - an old missionary hymn performed by
members of our adult choir.
'This little light of mine' - - performed by members of our junior choir.
'Praise my soul the King of Heaven' - a great
traditional hymn performed by
members of our junior choir.
'Jesus calls us o'er the tumult' - an old hymn sung
to a 'Southern' melody, accompanied by traditional southern instruments
including banjo, mountain dulcimer and accordion.
'I will make you fishers of men' - performed by
members of our junior choir.
'I tell a true tale' is the account of Jesus
and a miraculous catch of fish on Lake Galilee, leading to Jesus calling
of His first disciples, including Peter. It is in the form of a 'sea
shanty'. Please note that all music performances are copyright of Prince
George Winyah Episcopal Church, June 2009. Songs by Jon Blamire are
copyright of Prince George too. If you would like words / music
/ backing CD or DVD, please contact Jon
Blamire at the church 843 546 4358. |
