Announcing the Next Rector of Prince George Winyah Church

After receiving a unanimous recommendation from the Search Committee, the Vestry voted unanimously to call The Rev. Gary Beson to become the next rector of Prince George Winyah Church. Gary plans to begin serving at Prince George Winyah on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 and his first Sunday here will be on March 15, 2020. Please join the Search Committee and Vestry in welcoming Gary and his wife Sue to Prince George!

From Gray and Sue Beson:
Gary and Sue were both born in Ohio and later both of their families, after several moves, ended up in Summerville, SC. They met their junior year at Summerville High School, dated while Gary was at the Citadel and after graduation, and they were married in 1984 at St. Phillips Church. They moved that fall from Charleston to Columbia so Sue could attend the University of South Carolina and major in Civil Engineering. In 1987 they moved back to Summerville so Gary could open his first Home Health business. Children followed: Gardner in ‘89, Parks in ‘92 and Mary Grace in ‘95.

They lived and served the Lord at St. Paul’s Summerville (where Gary was confirmed as a teenager, by the Rt. Rev. Fitz Allison in 1974) for over 25 years before being called into full-time ordained life. They attended Trinity School for Ministry and while there the family became involved in church planting at Southside Anglican Church. Upon graduation, Gary was invited by both his sending church, St. Paul’s Summerville, and the Diocese to plant St. Timothy’s Church. In 2015, 8 of the faithful from St. Paul’s Summerville began the work of planting St. Timothy’s Church, and today that church is growing in every measurable way. Their membership is over 125 people with Saturday night attendance in the 80’s-90’s.

Gary’s hobbies are reading, exercise, talking to strangers and cooking, not always in that order.

Sue loves reading, exercise, quilting and any type of artistic expression. She enjoys eating more than cooking since the children moved out!

Gary and Sue are looking forward to becoming part of the Prince George Winyah family and eager to get started serving side by side with everyone in ministry.
