Why I Give
Why I Give
In another place and another time, those below offered their personal reasons for Generosity. May these be nourishing to your own soul. May they bless and encourage all of us in our own decisions about generosity towards God and His Church. The next E-news and website we will hear from some of our own PGW parish leaders.
I give out of gratitude and as a demonstration of my trust in God. I ran from Him for many years, but He never gave up on me. When I was ready to surrender, He took me back and began showing me what a gracious and loving Father He really is…I wish I could give more!!! It’s true that when you begin giving, your heart changes. When I was in the early stages of both my faith journey and my real estate career, I listened to real estate training CD’s in my car. A trainer named Floyd Wickman asked realtors what would excite them about making more money. He said one realtor had a hard time identifying something—she didn’t want to buy stuff or take a cruise or get a new car. Finally, she hit on what would excite her: “I could give more to my church.” When I first heard that I thought she was crazy. I’m sure I snorted with derision when I heard it. Today, about 14 years later, I AM THAT WOMAN. I never, ever saw that coming! - --JM
I give because I NEED to give…at the core of my being, I am a selfish, fearful person who would hoard all of God’s blessings and riches for myself, safety, and security. Giving helps me to remember that God is my provider, safety and security, and each month He proves this anew to me! And, 10% of all that He’s given to me is such a small sacrifice compared to His great love for me. So, Why do I give? It’s out of my great love for Him! --LR
Christ showed us that being a Christian will require a sacrifice. Our giving likewise should be sacrificial. When that happens a church thrives…and our generosity can be multiplied. --BR
Well, Oral Roberts would teach on Seed Faith Giving. Some of the scriptures he used were “…Give and it will be given to you…”; “…if you have faith as a mustard seed”; “…for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap…” I began to realize that giving is all about trusting God. He took the Israelites through the desert for 40 years to reveal their hearts and to show them His provision - BH.
I have been giving 10% ever since a teaching I received during the Journey in Faith class in 1998. It is difficult to say what exactly moved me to finally make the jump, other than to say that it was one of those “come to Jesus” moments in which the Spirit of the Lord moved me greatly. It was a “realization” of the Holy Spirit in my life. Everything I am and have is His. I give as an outpouring of gratitude to the giver of all good things. I think back on times when money was tight for our large family when extra bills came in, and each time the Lord provided! --KH
Giving 10% and beyond is my quiet gift, and such a small token compared to the wealth of good health, glorious living, wonderful friends and the beautiful world that surrounds me…not to mention that I have God who is on call 24/7 when I need Him, and even when I don’t realize I need Him. Giving 10% away is the best-kept secret to good living here on earth. --AM
I’ve been asked to say why I give... Then the answer is simple—because I want to. And, I want to give because I love my church and all this church is about…the Lord’s work….I give what I give, which is the biblical tithe (10%), for several reasons…the examples of other members, the teachings I have heard, and because the Bible asks for this -DF .
